We will start our tour visiting the Ranch el Paraíso known worldwide for being for being the scenario for the book ‘María’ by Jorge Isaacs. We will visit the Ranch Piedechinche from XVIII century, there we will see all here we will see all the process of Sugarcane and the importance it has had in our country.
The sugar cane museum is another must see, as a valuable sample of the development of sugar industry. Enjoy a typical lunch of the region and then, return to the hotel.
We will enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the best restaurants in the city of Cali, Platillos Voladores, a place that captivates you with its architecture and decoration. This place is also recognized for the art that the Colombian artist Carlos Andrade exposes in the restaurant, creating a fusion between art and our typical Colombian flavors. Transfer back to the hotel, and time to rest. Duration 3 Hours approximately.
Colombia is one of the main countries in South America to produce sugarcane (panela). In Medellin, we will live closely all the panela process in a sugar ranch, where they will explain to us the different types of panela and their specific uses in Colombia. Then, local farmers will tell us the importance of panela in our economy. Enjoy a typical lunch of the region and then transfer back to the hotel, time to rest. Duration 10 Hours approximately.
We will go through the streets of Medellin to live a gastronomic experience that will allow us to taste some of the typical food of the region, such as empanadas (pastries), buñuelos (cheese fritters) and arepas (corn cakes). After this whole explosion of flavours, visit the local market where we can enjoy the exotic fruits and delicious juices. Return to the hotel, and time at your leisure. Duration 4 Hours approximately.
Reception at Rafael Núñez Airport and transfer to the hotel, free time to rest and tour around the historical center.
The tour begins in Guatila, a restaurant located in Boca Grande, where its chef and owner Claudia Ealo (who has dedicated her life to the study and teaching of Colombian gastronomy and its flavors hidden in the immense territory) will be waiting. In this entertaining and interactive class we will learn the origin of each dish, and start by preparing as a starter a typical dish from the Colombian Caribbean region called "Cabeza e gato con chicharrón". Then she teaches us all about the coca leaf as a Colombian ancestral plant. As a main course, we cook a delicious Lasagna with coca leaf paste that we prepare ourselves. Last but not least, we make a dessert based on the biscuit "chepacorina” (a typical cookie of Carmen de Bolivar) with caramel and almonds, and we try the delicious and refreshing taste of Guatila.
We will start our tour walking towards the picturesque neighborhood of Gethsemane. We will arrive at El Arsenal bar where Abraham Dau will accompany us. He has the most complete collection of Colombian rums in the country and is considered one of the five best bartenders in Colombia. We will venture in a journey of flavors, savoring eight Colombian rums, considered as the best worldwide. Some will be in shots; others will be in sips and others in cocktail shakers, accompanied of the texture of one of the best Colombian chocolates, living in this way an unforgettable experience. Return to the hotel walking or free time to do other activities. Duration 2 to 3 Hours approximately.
